About R A Scamp Quality Daffodils

Greetings to you all,  

Whilst the rest of the Country seemed to be bathed in sunshine, we in the far west experienced yet another dreadfully wet Summer, fortunately June was a nice dry and windy month, and we had a good harvest, July was another matter!. 

West Cornwall does not generally get very heavy Snow and Frost, but January did prove the exception with perhaps only a light covering but it stayed, and was very cold many nights falling to below Zero, our Tazetta’s did not like it much, but they soon recovered and growth continued, we hope for some big bulbs. 

We are pleased to again be awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal for our display at the Cardiff Show also the highly coveted Best in Show Award, Bath, Boconnoc and Falmouth also Gold awards as did our display at the Royal Show in Jersey, we are grateful to New Generation for their help with this, John Edsall’s display at the New Forest Show was well received and highly acclaimed by all the visitors, well done John and thank you for your efforts. 

Sadly Jim Davidson passed on and the display he always did at Edinburgh Banff and Aberdeen could not be, he was a stalwart of the Daffodil Fraternity and will be sadly missed. However Don Elder of Dundee is continuing and enhancing the Dundee Show, and the committee at Caledonian show are also making a display, we hope to work as closely as possible with them in the future.

The Show Garden at Trevarno now features over 2600 varieties and with the great help of Mark Vandervliet of New Generation Daffodils in Cornwall (www.newgenerationdaffodils.com),  and Carlos Vanderveek of Fluwel from Breezand in Holland (www.fluwel.nl), the collection has been extended to included  much of  their own collections and that of the late Karol Vanderveeks famous collection in Holland, this is now the Greatest collection of Daffodils available for the public viewing and research  to be found anywhere in the World today, surely a display not to be missed, we shall be adding many more as time and space permits.
